‘Weight training 101’

What’s one thing you wish you had started doing earlier in life?

A couple of years ago, weight training was recommended to me. I had to research the exercises by myself. Currently, I’m lifting 2x2kg weights. I also have 3kg dumbbells. For the exercises, I currently do 12 reps x 2 sets. 90s rest between sets. The trick is gradually increasing the reps for maximum effect.

Seven different exercises target my upper body. I’ve been doing some of them for a while. I do my routine for 35 minutes 4 days a week. I don’t want to overwork. Too much and it’ll be detrimental and unhelpful. Frankly, three days is sufficient. I alternate between A and B, which offers different weight training options.

I’ve only been training for 6 weeks but I’m already seeing results. My back isn’t ramrod straight but there’s clear progress. Both my standing and seated posture have levelled-up. There’s no need for me to rock up at the gym. My stomach issues are now mostly resolved.

I’m already lean and the weights have made me thinner. I need to bulk up. While I don’t want to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger, I also don’t want to appear like Christian Bale in The Machinist. When you expend energy, you must offset that and make adjust your diet.

One thing I dislike about weight training is how it messed up my body clock. I hope a time adjustment with my sessions will solve this. Maybe there will be more gains in three months. Hopefully, my slouching will improve even more. I wish I tried this sooner, years ago, but I’m applying it now. That’s all that matters.
