Description

‘I left beholding the moon and stars of your tranquil night sky / Early dawns, inviting days, sun-kissed barrios, and packed church pews / Should you fancy fiestas, world-class beaches or islets, join me in this diverse country…’

The excerpt is taken from ‘Mi Primer Adios’ (‘My First Farewell’).  Wellington’s finest piece kicks off his debut collection. Inspired by national hero, Jose Rizal’s last hurrah. Grouped into five parts, these forty-three gems are mostly unpublished. Sections on sunup, love poems, snapshots, and Aussie battlers. The title poem praises Wellington’s high school. A tribute to university life. Verses on Sydney’s weather. Song parodies. A pink budgie’s explosive end. Inspecting houses beside his mentor, Uncle Ned.

This marks the author’s third release in three literary forms. Namely, fiction, nonfiction, and now…poetry. Valiant  writers must also be determined, versatile and innovative. They ought to transcend their limits, exploring new frontiers. In his teens, Rizal along with Jose Garcia Villa sparked his creativity. Wellington has become prolific at crafting stanzas. He gave colour to Musings with Villa’s reversed consonance and minimalist style. Other poetic influences include playwright Samuel Beckett, author Haruki Murakami, and Emmy winner Atlanta.

Welcome aboard! Wander through Struggle Street or the ‘Town of Cuts’. Discover All Saints’ Day as well as Ben’s WiFi. His lines are witty, sharp, and nostalgic. Page counts vary: a haiku to mini-epics. Tender and moving, Musings sees the exceptional in the ordinary. Vamos!
